AI at work: use it to remove friction, not judgment

Downloaded from TWE · Oct 18, 2026

Practical AI use at work starts with tasks you can verify quickly: summarising, restructuring, drafting and finding information — not delegating accountability.

Start with reversible work

The easiest place to use AI productively is work that can be checked quickly and corrected cheaply. Turning rough notes into a structured outline, summarising a long internal document, proposing spreadsheet formulas, rewriting repetitive copy or generating test cases can save time without surrendering the final decision.

Give the tool a bounded task

“Help with this project” is vague. A useful instruction includes the objective, relevant context, constraints and the format you need back. The more a task depends on company-specific facts, the more important it is to supply verified context rather than expecting the model to know it.

Protect confidential information

Before putting customer, employee, contract or proprietary information into an external AI service, understand the organisation’s policy and the provider’s data controls. When sensitive context is not required, remove it.

Keep a human checkpoint

AI can accelerate a draft, but the person sending an email, changing production code or making a commercial decision remains responsible for the result. Review facts, calculations, citations and commitments before the output leaves the organisation.

Measure the workflow, not the novelty

Keep the uses that reduce cycle time or improve quality. Drop the ones that create more prompting, checking and correction than the original task. Productivity is the outcome; AI is only one possible mechanism.
